Union upset over Santa Clara County's plan to cut vacant jobs

The county plans to slash hundreds of vacant positions, a move union leaders said would exacerbate staffing issues. Officials want to eliminate about 650 vacant roles out of roughly 3,500 vacancies.

You shorten the heath care worker careers of those who perform physically demanding jobs under inadequate staffing. Health care workers should not be lifting over half their weight. How many adult patients weigh 150 pounds or less? Two nurses would be transferring 75 pounds. I worked with a nurse from South Africa who said when they worked short staffed there, employees from other areas of the hospital came to work along side them. She was commenting because of the lack of back-up help she found nurses receiving here in the States. We are not as civilized here as we like to think we are.
