Police pursuit rarely ends well, was pursuit necessary in this case? Assuming they had his license plate and bank imagery of him, surely they could have followed up on this later.

This was breathtakingly dangerous in so many ways.
That section of Park Blvd is much used by bicyclists, and sidewalks used by pedestrians walking to Cal Ave. Continuing a chase into a residential neighborhood is mind boggling.
Yes - a bad guy was being pursued, but the police shouldn’t get to put OUR lives at risk in responding.
Surely this can’t conform to police policy, but if it does, the policy should be changed.

Uh. This occurred in Palo Alto at an opportune time, on a very bad intersection of ECR and Cal Ave. We know where a young child’s life ended at 7:48pm a couple of years ago. The blocked off Cal Ave for “outdoor” dining. All way intersection, w a right turn legal green or red from a cramped s. Cal to ECR corner, u turns permitted.
While long VTA buss’ stop at Well Fargo blinding visibility. And too a coned off weeded, grimy old deflated cones line a turn lane — no left turn at south East ECR onto Cal Ave. 1980 version cross light buttons , no yellow stripped cross walk. And no NO count down crossing timer.
Parents w small kids on trikes, bikes, pets, single travelers, groups of families or workers, SRP employees, e-bikes, scooters, segues, over 2 ton delivery trucks, residents of Mayfield and College terrace traverse this hourly 7 days a week. 5:30 pm a massive glut of autos and others coming and going. Techno Bank (formerly Radio Shack) is a massive, unmitigated corner of banks and ped, auto, two wheeled traffic.
Where autos 90% of the time blow the stops at Yale and S. Cal Ave.
Yet. Near nothing has been done to get this deadly crossing resolved. It’s a cross at your own risk. Added a robbery, theft (Bonnie & Clyde type heist using deadly vehicles as defense weapons while also having loaded hand gun in car).
At the cross hairs of this crime, My children return or leave our dwelling at. There is no there, there. When is the time for safety measures? When? Who is in charge, when are decisions being made. Certainly Menlo Park, RWC, MTV are doing better with ECR / City crossings. TY!

They assaulted a police officer. I have no problem with pursuit. Why should anyone assume that the truck is registered to this man? Or that security camera footage would be enough to identify? Glad the police got them and hope they go to jail for a long time.

"Assuming they had his license plate and bank imagery of him, surely they could have followed up on this later."
^ This is commonly referred to as a getaway. The police were doing their job by responding to a crime in progress.
"Surely this can’t conform to police policy, but if it does, the policy should be changed."
^ This is referred to as progressive police policy (aka protecting the criminals).
Palo Alto is not San Francisco where crime and punishment equates to a slap on the wrist.

Seriously? Imagine the public outcry had the PAPD had taken this nonchalant route.
These were violent, multi-offenders with prior warrants for their arrest.
A "we'll catch up with the criminals later" approach is a counterproductive mentality of progressive liberals who are primarily responsible for the glaring increases in urban and suburban crime.

What a lovely pair. Once again Palo Alto is the target of out of town criminals.

Crime is everywhere, but Palo Alto is a soft on crime city. Criminals know this and take advantage. This isn't breaking news.

Why did the suspects/arrestees come all the way from Sacramento?

Thank you, Palo Alto Police, for pursuing and arresting these major criminal suspects. You make our community safer and I appreciate this.
It’s the County DA who does the charges, not the individual city BTW

Good work, PAPD! Aggressive pursuit of criminals is the only way to knock this kind of stuff down. [Portion removed.] Stay the course, oh brave wearers of the Blue! We appreciate you.

I saw three police cars speeding north on the narrow and curving Park Boulevard by Peers Park. I was on my bike. It was scary.
I hope the police department realizes that having Cal Ave blocked off for “dining” will make their movements in and out of the new police station incredibly awkward, dangerous and inefficient. It’s time for our city’s leaders reverse their dangerous plan to keep Cal Ave closed permanently! Life isn’t just about dining outdoors.

I had to laugh at "alleged" criminals having rammed a police car. They sure look like downright criminals to me.
