I wonder where the skilled workers who made these homes so lovely live?

How nice for Ms. Huang and Ms. Lee that they can own valuable land in other parts of the world without being encumbered by community obligations. This article is disturbing on a lot of levels, primarily because it focuses solely on remote personal property and wealth accumulation with no consideration for what this may mean for communities. I see many properties in our own community being used as investment this way, and I worry about how this trend is affecting community. I'm sure this kind of investment will have even greater impacts on less affluent communities. Ms. Huang and Ms. Lee, what have you done for your communities lately? Clearly, you have wealth and time to contribute. How are you contributing--beyond the work you have to do to improve your personal property values? That's a story that would be interesting.

I understand investing, but this sounds like addiction to purchasing property. The aggravation wouldn't be worth it to me. And there's no guarantee property values will increase, and developers do go bankrupt. Not understanding the laws, the language, etc. is a hinderance. To each his/her own. Enjoy!

To the naysayers in the comments saying that Penelope is doing nothing for the local communities, I would advise them to do some research before passing judgement.

She has been involved in fundraising and renovating projects for local Mexican schools, organized a computer drive to get kids access to modernization that would have otherwise been out of their reach and has encouraged those who are the “haves” living in this bubble of the peninsula to help the “have nots” they otherwise wouldn’t think twice about.

Larry Ellison of Oracle bought the entire Hawaiian island of Lanai. No one is criticizing him.

Realtors Huang and Lee are simply pursuing an off-site American Dream.

What's wrong with that?
