Pac 12 - gone
Sigma Chi - going
Wrestling Coach - leaving
President - replaced
Provost - replaced

That is not an enviable lineup; Stanford is kind of in the midst of its very own Dark Ages. Hopefully the new president and provost will turn things around. Given two of the items on that list, the Athletic Department might be a good place to start.

770 Welsh Rd -- gone, along with hundreds of doctors/dentists

Stanford's arrogance is shamefully transparent and over-the-top. Wasn't the reason it couldn't / wouldn't add its fair share of housing on its own properties that they chad so many long-term leases and cared so much about their tenants?

Remember when it arrogantly dismissed Redwood City residents' complaints about it doing 24/7 construction because IT was in a rush and their sleep didn't matter?

Remember when it arrogantly and suddenly evicted everyone from 770 Welsh Road immediately after getting a huge donation to expand its children's health facilities? Did it care that this was in the middle of the pandemic, that hundreds of patients would suffer from interrupted treatment for 3+ -- THREE+ -- years -- while their doctors/dentists scrambled to find office space and construction people and their doctors/dentists are STILL trying to catch up with their backlog?

Just look at what it's doing to the College Terrace neighborhood and how many housing and apartment units it's taken over and removed from PA's tax rolls.

Look at the smoke it's blowing with their repeated claims that their massive expansion hasn't added a single car trip.

My mother's on campus college (dormitory) house on a out-of-state campus was torn down & replaced by a parking lot. Up until then she made it known over the years she would be leaving her estate in it's entirety to her beloved college. She had been a walking nonstop glowing advertisement for that college up until that point. I never heard a peep about her college after that, and her kids received her estate. I have my doubts Stanford will be coming out ahead.

Let's not forget Stanford's relatively recent admission about past (and likely ongoing) racist policies toward Jewish people. I'm sure that was due to another lawsuit with a settlement we will never learn the terms of, probably due to an ironclad NDA. In the "bombshell" category, Stanford is winning. There will be more shoes dropping. Stanford has a way of letting information trickle out in such a way that it gives them enough time to do damage control, but this lease termination offered none of that. Of course they didn't want to attract attention with the declaration that they were going to terminate a lease after it is nominated as a nationally recognized historic building. That will give them bad publicity. "Oops I Did It Again" should be their school anthem.

Yes Palo Alto’s housing stock is diminishing as the developer Stanford eats away at College Terrace. Many homes have been demolished in College Terrace where Stanford’s new construction is contexturally uncomplementary with this historic neighborhood. So much cheaper to buy bulk material to build pseudo mid-century modern. There are many examples of excellent mid-century modern in town for example Eichler and Stedman but Stanford ignores their architectural provenance by choosing a cheaper construction and ‘design.’

Stanford is the largest developer in Santa Clara County holding nine thousand acres. Yet Land Management Real Estate is tasked with buying Palo Alto’s housing.

Stanford must work with the city of Palo Alto and show leases in Research Park.

Stanford is not known for transparency. They keep their cards close to their vests. Why won’t they work with the city of Palo Alto? Time to build affordable housing by converting buildings to housing. Land Management Real Estate needs to partner with Palo Alto and build needed housing on their land instead of eliminating Palo Alto’s housing stock.

Stanford could have built housing for staff and other employees when the new hospital was built as well as the Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital. Palo Alto endures pressures including commuter traffic, use of our services and schools.

Stanford build housing on your own land and stop eradicating Palo Alto’s College Terrace neighborhood.
