Palo Alto eager to expand 'safe parking' programs for vehicle dwellers

Calling it a small but crucial tool for addressing homelessness, Palo Alto agreed on Monday to expand and make permanent a program that allows local congregations to devote parking spaces to vehicle dwellers.

I think the idea that the vehicles should be moved during the day is a good idea because it makes clear that they are roadworthy. Without that, we could expect to see junkers left to fall apart over the months to the extent that they might need to be towed to be moved. That would add to additional problems.

There's a good reason why there haven't been any complaints from nearby residents. There is no place to report them. During the initial outreach, residents were promised that they would be provided with a 24-hour phone number to call for issues. Since then, we've heard nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zero. No one from the City, Move Mountain View, or the church has been in touch with us.
