Gennady Sheyner is a great reporter so I am glad that's he's on the staff. We'll see how long this transition to new owners lasts. I hope that they do enough business to stay open. It's a cute piece of nostalgia from the halcyon days of health food stores. The only thing I've bought there in years is the Midwife and the Baker breads so here's hoping I can still do that.

The similarity between this potential closure and another beloved local amenity, namely Mike's Diner, has an equal bottom line. If the community wants these businesses, then they have to support them. Going in to each more often than before is crucial to anyone who values these services. Whether it is a restaurant or a grocery store, the only way to keep them is to remember to value them by giving them custom. I feel sure many people buy their vitamins online or get groceries delivered, and the same can be said for meals. UberEats delivers food to homes, but it might be worth remembering that to get a meal cooked to order and delivered to the table rather than the door, it will probably be quicker to visit the restaurant itself.
I feel that if we want to have local amenities then we must use them. We must increase the number of times we use them. We must value local businesses rather than online or out of town sources of the things we say we value.

Other nearby stores made it worth it to include a stop there for me: the camera, hardware, book, art, stationery, pet stores. These have largely fallen by the wayside. The adjacent businesses need to do more than catering to customers who can still afford to go out to eat.

Thank you to the new owners who get Country Sun for keeping this community treasure viable. The staff with Kevin, Tatiana, Parker and other young people are the best. Country Sun is the heart of the avenue. Again kudos to the angels for doing the right thing.

Commenter "Bystander" hit the nail on the head - if we want these businesses to thrive in the community, we need to utilize their services, whether a grocery store, restaurant, cleaners, whatever. I've been shopping at Country Sun since we moved to this area in 1982 and I'm thrilled that it is remaining open. I'm eager to see what the next steps are and intend to continue to support them, even though it's not as near to my house as other options. Bravo to the 2 customers and to Radiate Hospitality for making it possible for Country Syn to stay open!

I was one of their biggest fans praying for this good news!
And I got what I wanted for Christmas - Country Sun to stay open!
By shopping at Country Sun, remember you are supporting all the small businesses they share California Avenue with, lots of local farmers, other small businesses, and our community! They have the cleanest, best products around, and the happiest smiles! (I get happy just walking in to the store it is such a cheerful place!)
Make sure to stop by and tell them what favorite natural product you'd like them to carry. The Schoch fresh yogurt in returnable glass bottles is one of my favorites! Also Wise Goat fermented hot sauce - I put in or on so many things!

This is great news. I think something that would be really meaningful that I hope Country Sun will consider is putting in a pharmacy. There is no pharmacy on Cal Ave. People have to go to either Town and Country or Middlefield and both options are chains (CVS and Walgreens). There is a real opportunity in terms of demand for a local pharmacy that so many folks can walk to or visit before having a great dinner on California Avenue or that is just a very short walk from the train station. Country Sun is already known for vitamins and other things typical of pharmacies and I think it would be really great for the community if this was considered.
